The Boldest Looks From The MET Gala 2016

The first Monday of May in New York is quite the big deal; A-list celebrities flock to the MET museum on 5th avenue and walk the annual MET gala red carpet in custom-made creations by the world’s most coveted designers. 2016’s gala was no different than others; on the contrary, with a theme entitled ““Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology”, we witnessed a sea of mirrored gowns that surely transported us to the future. Here’s a closer look at last night’s boldest looks:

Emma Stone debuted her darker locks in a striking white Prada gown with a gunmetal harness. The actress completed her look with Lorraine Schwartz jewels and Smokey eyes.

Kendall Jenner was her usual stunning supermodel self in a custom multi-colored Atelier Versace dress. Jenner accentuated her look with white heels and a high ponytail.

Kendall’s bestie- Gigi Hadid- also wowed in a gunmetal chiffon custom-made Tommy Hilfiger gown with an attached halter neckline. The model brought her best accessory, boyfriend Zayn Malik who turned heads in his metal armed custom Versace suit.

Blake Lively usually knocks it out of the park with her MET gala ensembles, however, last night was a different story. The pregnant actress does not impress in her pink Burberry dress with red flower embellishments; from her hair to her over-the-top Lorraine Schwartz danglers, here’s hoping that Blake’s fashion choices evolve as her second pregnancy unfolds.

Taylor Swift can’t seem to get enough of her new look; the singer sticks to her beach hair and wine lips for the MET’s red carpet event and dons a reptile print Louis Vuitton side cut-out halter dress. It’s safe to say that T.Swift can do so much better than this.

In possibly one of the worst looks of the night, Madonna chooses to cover her nipples in black tape and show us her butt in a sheer black ensemble and over 400 carats of Neil Lane jewels. It’s time to act your age Madge.

Naomi Watts knows how good she looks in metallics: the Aussie actress stuns in a strapless mirrored Burberry dress with embellished flowers and Fred Leighton jewels.

Another red carpet, another shapeless matching getup for Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen.

I’m usually not a fan of Kristen Stewart, but the actress surely impressed at this year’s MET gala. For her walk down the carpet, Stewart chose a laced silk Chanel dress with equally stunning sparkly boots. The actress ups her game with striking silver shadow and a blonde updo.

A usual MET gala favorite, Sarah Jessica Parker fails in this custom Monse ensemble and mis-matched heels from her own line, SJP.

Lady Gaga goes back to her early red carpet days in a flawlessly structured Atelier Versace onesie and matching metallic bolero with sublime detailing. Her lace-up platform boots should have stayed at home though.

Emma Watson pushes her style in a pant/skirt combo by Calvin Klein Collection. The British actress completes her outfit with a simple black and white bustier and old glamorous waves.

Karolina Kurkova stuns in her gray Marchesa dress that comes loaded with flower appliques and get this, the gown is embedded with IBM Watson technology (LED lights) that reacts to social media in real-time!

Kim Kardashian said that she felt like a “robot” in her metallic mirrored Balmain gown, but I doubt that a even a robot would want to wear this skin-tight over the top look.

Rachel McAdams is simply lovely in her Valentino dress which featured heavy gold details and script embroidery all over the skirt. The actress completed her look with dark lips and a pair of Jimmy Choos.

Too much dress and way too many feathers; Rita Ora fails to inspire us with her custom Vera Wang gown.

What could be better than Kate Bosworth’s sublime Dolce and Gabbana armored bodice dress? Her matching crown, that’s what.

Katy Perry takes costume galas very seriously it seems. The singer goes all out with an elaborate (that word could be an understatement) Prada gown accentuated with a Tamagotchi (boyfriend Orlando Bloom also wore one) toy and a fierce updo.

Cindy Crawford’s still got it! The ageless models sizzles in a liquid silver Balmain dress with structured sheer panels.

Nicki Minaj looks like she’s packed, taped, and ready to be shipped out in this custom Moschino halter dress, complete with buckle details and sheer gloves and skirt. #fail.

I’m having a schizophrenic reaction to Miranda Kerr’s Louis Vuitton two piece outfit. On the one hand, it’s way too colorful and the mismatched ruffle is just tacky, but on the other hand, if anyone can get away with wearing this look,  it would be this Aussie model.

Note to Brie Larson: this is what you wear to a high profile red carpet event from now on. The Oscar winner makes up for her Academy Awards look by slipping into a breath-taking cut-out Proenza Schouler mirrored halter dress. Simply stunning!

Kate Hudson disappoints in this super busy Atelier Versace white gown with a tiered and sculpted bodice and long train. The actress redeems herself (kind-of) thanks to her 8 million dollar Lorraine Schwartz jewels.

Solange Knowles is playful in this #Lemonade pleated dress with an inverted neckline and thigh-high matching boots. Classic Solange and on point with the color to support big sis Beyoncé.

Alicia Vikander has too much going on thanks to her Louis Vuitton dress. The design house’s latest muse groups patent, sequins, and patchwork all in one LV mini and yet, the disaster seems to come in the form of Vikander’s unfortunate red hiking boots.

Dolce and Gabbana’s #ItaliaIsLove can easily be changed to #ZoeIsLove, for Saldana is the epitome of glitz and glamour in a flawless Dolce and Gabbana multi-colored feather trained extravagant gown.

As if Beyoncé needed more press this week! Queen B was the talk of the MET thanks to her latex or Slaytex- as many called it- gown by Givenchy. The puff sleeve nude beaded gown sent the BeyHive (and the Twitterverse) into a frenzy and expressed a lack of care that Jay Z couldn’t make it. This was Beyoncé in all her glory and she emerged a winner, as usual.

Best and Worst at the 2014 Emmys

The much awaited Emmys took place last night in Hollywood. Once again, and following Sunday’s VMAs another red carpet lacked movie star glamour. However, some of our favorites brought it. The others? Well not so much..

Kicking off the best dressed with none other than Sofia Vergara. The Columbian stunner is now used to hitting every best dressed list all over the world and does not disappoint in a white Roberto Cavalli strapless gown and tons of diamonds from go-to jeweler, Lorraine Schwartz.

Sofia vergara

Julia Roberts sure knows how to wear a mini stunner to a classy awards show! America’s sweetheart stuns in a navy Elie Saab cocktail number (the details are simply amazing!). Roberts pairs her dress with matching pumps and her million dollar smile.

Julia Roberts

Heidi Klum is it really you?? The former super model is a far cry away from her thigh high slits and excessive cleavage ensembles in this understated – but beautiful Zac Posen gown! Here’s hoping Heidi keeps this up for her next red carpet appearance.

Heidi Klum

Orange is the New Black’s Taylor Schilling takes everyone’s breath away in this stunning Zuhair Murad gown. The actress pairs her gown with tons of diamonds and a soft up do.

Who can believe that Julia Louis-Dreyfus still manages to look this amazing after all these years?! The A list actress is mesmerizing in a custom-made Carolina Herrera column gown and Lorraine Schwartz sparklers. Definitely one of the best dressed of the night!

Julia Louis

Sarah Paulson looks like a work of art in this Armani Privé masterpiece. The actress is so graceful in this black and red tulle confection! She let the dress take center stage and stuck to simple hair and minimal accessories. Simply beautiful!

The beautiful Camilla Alves dazzles in nude; Mrs. Matthew McConaughey is sheer perfection in this sheer Zuhair Murad gown. The design hugs the model in all the right places, making her one of the night’s best dressed!

Camilla Alves

And as always, with the good comes the bad! Kicking it off with Amy Poehler who decided that belly dancers just have more fun at awards shows. Is there another explanation for this full on metallic sequined Theia design?

I love Kerry Washington and usually, most of her red carpet picks are spot on. Not this time though! The black and orange combo is simply not working and it just looks like Kerry’s 1 year old glued on the sequined bits all over her Prada gown with DIY super glue.

Kerry Washington worst

Poor Christina Hendricks in her satin red cover like gown. The Mad Men actress should have taken note from Julia Louis Dreyfus’ book when she chose to wear this. Instead, she gives us a lesson on how to screw up a red gown in this Marchesa mess. And as for the hair? Well it needs a “hate” blog post on its own.

There’s not much to say when it comes to Lena Dunham. So instead, here’s a picture of her wearing Giambattista Valli. I’ll let you be the judge!

It always amazes me when an actress walks the red carpet with a feeling like she looks like a million dollars, when in reality she just resembles Sesame Street’s Big Bird. This is the case with Kate Walsh who shows up in this yellow Stephane Rolland disaster!

Red Carpet | Best Dressed at the MET Gala

Fashion’s A List came out to celebrate the Met Gala in New York City, with the theme being “Punk: Chaos to Couture”. Let me tell you that there was A LOT of chaos in terms of fashion choices, but for now, let’s just focus on the jaw dropping gowns that made the Best Dressed list!

While Gwen Stefani‘s gown wasn’t as punk as I thought she would want it to be, the rocker was beautiful in a black bow bandeau top and white column skirt custom made by Maison Martin Margiela. Stefani sealed the look with her signature blond locks and red lips!

Gwen Stefani

Gisele always gets it right at the MET, but this time around her choice didn’t quite knock things out of the park. The supermodel still reflected the punk theme in her Anthony Vaccarello black mini with structured details and tons of black diamonds.

Giselle

Looks like the single life has been treating Katie Holmes well! The actress chose a stunning yet understated Calvin Klein white halter for the MET Gala and accessorized with $2.5 million Lorraine Schwartz earrings!

Katie Holmes

Jessica Alba is always one to impress at the MET Gala. This year, Alba went for a gun metal Tory Burch gown with fun ab-revealing cutouts. Adding a major punk touch to her look was a spiked Christian Louboutin clutch and spiked earrings!

Jessica Alba

Hate it or love it, we all know that if there is one person in the world who can pull off a Michael Kors skin tight animal-print gown, it would be Jennifer Lopez! (Same goes for the hairstyle!)

JLo

We all know that Rooney Mara loves her Givenchy so who else would she choose to design her gown for the MET Ball? Mara slipped into a white lace Haute Couture gown by the designer with major zipper detailing. She completed her look with Fred Leighton jewels and dark lips.

Rooney Mara

Leave it to Sara Jessica Parker to go wild for statement accessories! The Sex and the City alum compliments her voluminous Giles Deacon gown with a more than fabulous headpiece by Philip Treacy, that even Kate Middleton would be envy!

SJP

If anyone can pull off a dress-pant combo look it would be Jessica Biel; Mrs. Justin Timberlake chose a Giambattista Valli macramé and tulle gown with matching pants. She accessorized with patent leather pumps, Fred Leighton jewels and a nose ring!

Jessica Biel

She may be walking away from Victoria’s Secret, but Miranda Kerr can still find plenty of creative ways to show off her fit body. For the MET gala, Kerr wore a Michael Kors black halter gown with a coordinated bandeau bra. Adding major glamour to her look were the hundreds of carats of diamonds courtesy of Cartier!

Miranda Kerr

It’s refreshing to see Blake Lively learn that you don’t have to show a lot of skin to get attention on the red carpet. The former Gossip Girl star wore a stunning strapless creation by Gucci Premiere (she is the face of the brand) that had a full feather organza skirt and embellishment around the waist area. Dangling Lorraine Schartz earrings added major glam to her look!

Blake Lively

It wasn’t all perfect at the MET Gala; stay tuned for the worst dressed coming up later!
