A Fashionista’s Survival Guide to New Year’s Eve 2013

It’s almost time to bid 2013 farewell and say hello to 2014! But before we do that tonight, us girls, well we’re usually faced with trouble trying to select the perfect outfit to ring in the new year. Should we go for jeans, a skirt, or a dress? Should you go for an up-do or leave your hair down? Flats or heels? So in order to help you overcome (or at least deal with) these issues, here is a mini survival guide for every lady looking to nail her New Year’s Eve look.

The Outfit: I know we all want to wear our favorite silk dress tonight. But lets face it: New Year’s Eve = CHAOS; someone’s bound to open a bottle of champagne at 12AM and spray everyone in sight with it and it’s very possible that a waiter will accidentally drop the remaining contents of a bowl of onion soup in your lap (yes, it’s happened to me – NOT FUN!) So when choosing your outfit tonight, make it a fashionable, yet practical choice. Pick something that you know can be washed or sent to the dry cleaners. I love this simple yet glamorous find from Vero Moda.

The Shoes: If you’re going out tonight, chances are you will be on the dance floor till the early hours of the morning. And since you’ll be dancing, then you need to make sure that you’re wearing comfortable heels. (Yes, comfortable and sexy heels REALLY DO exist). However, regardless of your choice of heels, your feet are bound to feel the heat after midnight, so remember to keep a pair of dressy ballerinas in your car and turn to them to keep the party going! You don’t want to end up looking like this guy ;)

The Hair: I know that nailing the perfect ‘do is next to impossible with the weather being all crazy and humid, so make sure to tell your stylist to give you something simple and a style that you can adjust throughout the night in case your hair decides to go out of control. Personally, I either straighten my hair and include some curly waves at its ends to add some volume and leave it hanging loose or I ask my hairdresser to put it up in a pony tail- that way I really don’t have to worry about it. Take Rosy Huntington Whitely’s hair as guidance and remember whatever style you end up with, ask for some extra anti hair frizz spray to keep your strands in place!

The Makeup: For the holidays, I like to go for a kitten eye and red lips. While some might consider it a bold look, it’s pretty simple and doesn’t take much time to put together. However you decide to do your makeup, keep a few essentials in your purse for touch-ups, especially in case you’re hitting several house parties or events. I always keep concealer, eye liner, lipstick, cotton swabs (these always come in handy), and a compact mirror in my purse.

Have fun: No matter what you’re doing tonight, celebrate and enjoy every second of your time; it’s a been a year filled with ups and downs for us all, so when the clock strikes 12AM, make sure you hug and kiss anyone who means everything to you and toast for a happy and healthy 2014!

Happy New Year Everyone!

LB’s Fashion’s Day Out | Brunching with Vero Moda

Christmas came early this year for 8 lucky ladies who are avid fans of Vero Moda and Elle Oriental; the girls will ring in the arrival of 2014 with fabulous clothes and a full year of fashion thanks to VM.

Last Wednesday, Carmel and Vanilla was invited to attend a brunch held in honor of these eight lucky ladies at Cherry on the Roof Top located in Le Gray. And if you think the event was just your average brunch, think again. Sure the food was flawless and the drinks were fresh, but the Vero Moda team- headed by Roula Nahas- made sure to add their personal touch in the smallest of details. There were cupcakes personalized with the names of the winners, small glass jars filled with healthy bites, and individually wrapped cupcakes which literally tasted like heaven!

A dedicated beauty team from Bourjois was also present along with  a makeup consultant who offered   the ladies and myself some beneficial tricks that will surely come in handy during the holidays! Personal stylist Roula Kehdi was also there to give her tips on dressing for your body type and perfecting your style.

However, the most touching part of the event was when Roula gave an inspirational talk advising the winners to love themselves and make a wish for 2014 by blowing off the candle flame from each personalized cupcake. The ladies were finally encouraged to work hard to make this wish come true in the new year.

Following the event, I visited Vero Moda in Beirut Souks with Rachel from the VM team and we browsed through the new winter collection, which is just amazing! I’m sure you still have a few last minute gifts on your list that need to be bought, so be sure to head to your nearest Vero Moda and select your favorite items. While you’re at it, check out their newly introduced  Noisy May collection!

A big thanks to Vero Moda and Roula Nahas for such an entertaining and fun filled quality brunch. Cheers to so much more success in 2014!

Spotted | Nicole Kidman Lights Up Cannes!

Looks like Nicole Kidman is finally getting her face back! Yep, seems this Aussie actress is shying away from her previously much loved botox that made her look like a Stepford wife, and I’m loving the results already. Only 48 hours into the Cannes Film Festival and Kidman is undoubtedly the belle of the ball in not one, but four stunning outfits!

For her glamorous arrival in the southern French city, Nicole chose a navy sparkle dress and wrap ankle strap pointed pumps- both by Dior. Kidman dazzled the crowds with her simple straight hair and million dollar smile-yes she can smile again :D

Later in the day, Nicole- who is serving as a judge at this year’s festival- appeared at a photo-op with her fellow judges in a beautiful LBD by Alexander McQueen. The dress featured a seductive low cut neckline and romantic bell sleeves. The actress completed her look with mauve Jimmy Choos- a brand she is sure to be wearing more often since she was just named its new face!

For the screening of The Great Gatsby, Kidman slipped into a floral gown by Dior. She matched her strapless dress with patent pink pumps and had her hair pulled up in a glamorous updo.

Finally, for an event honoring Calvin Klein last night, Nicole wore an S&M inspired leather dress by the label and added Fred Leighton earrings and grey captoe pumps by Jimmy Choo.

Are you loving Nicole’s style? Which look is your fav?

Red Carpet | Best Dressed at the MET Gala

Fashion’s A List came out to celebrate the Met Gala in New York City, with the theme being “Punk: Chaos to Couture”. Let me tell you that there was A LOT of chaos in terms of fashion choices, but for now, let’s just focus on the jaw dropping gowns that made the Best Dressed list!

While Gwen Stefani‘s gown wasn’t as punk as I thought she would want it to be, the rocker was beautiful in a black bow bandeau top and white column skirt custom made by Maison Martin Margiela. Stefani sealed the look with her signature blond locks and red lips!

Gisele always gets it right at the MET, but this time around her choice didn’t quite knock things out of the park. The supermodel still reflected the punk theme in her Anthony Vaccarello black mini with structured details and tons of black diamonds.

Looks like the single life has been treating Katie Holmes well! The actress chose a stunning yet understated Calvin Klein white halter for the MET Gala and accessorized with $2.5 million Lorraine Schwartz earrings!

Jessica Alba is always one to impress at the MET Gala. This year, Alba went for a gun metal Tory Burch gown with fun ab-revealing cutouts. Adding a major punk touch to her look was a spiked Christian Louboutin clutch and spiked earrings!

Jessica Alba

Hate it or love it, we all know that if there is one person in the world who can pull off a Michael Kors skin tight animal-print gown, it would be Jennifer Lopez! (Same goes for the hairstyle!)

We all know that Rooney Mara loves her Givenchy so who else would she choose to design her gown for the MET Ball? Mara slipped into a white lace Haute Couture gown by the designer with major zipper detailing. She completed her look with Fred Leighton jewels and dark lips.

Leave it to Sara Jessica Parker to go wild for statement accessories! The Sex and the City alum compliments her voluminous Giles Deacon gown with a more than fabulous headpiece by Philip Treacy, that even Kate Middleton would be envy!

If anyone can pull off a dress-pant combo look it would be Jessica Biel; Mrs. Justin Timberlake chose a Giambattista Valli macramé and tulle gown with matching pants. She accessorized with patent leather pumps, Fred Leighton jewels and a nose ring!

Jessica Biel

She may be walking away from Victoria’s Secret, but Miranda Kerr can still find plenty of creative ways to show off her fit body. For the MET gala, Kerr wore a Michael Kors black halter gown with a coordinated bandeau bra. Adding major glamour to her look were the hundreds of carats of diamonds courtesy of Cartier!

It’s refreshing to see Blake Lively learn that you don’t have to show a lot of skin to get attention on the red carpet. The former Gossip Girl star wore a stunning strapless creation by Gucci Premiere (she is the face of the brand) that had a full feather organza skirt and embellishment around the waist area. Dangling Lorraine Schartz earrings added major glam to her look!

It wasn’t all perfect at the MET Gala; stay tuned for the worst dressed coming up later!

LB’s Fashion’s Night Out | Miss Selfridge Opens at the Beirut City Centre!

Over 8 years ago, one of my favorite shopping destinations – Miss Selfridge- closed its doors in Beirut. As young teenagers, my friends and I would wait for Saturday afternoons to shop the latest looks to wear on our highly anticipated “no school uniform” days. As for my mum, well only God knows how many hours she had to wait in the changing rooms for me to choose the items I wanted to purchase.

So I guess you can imagine how super excited I was when I found out that Miss Selfridge was re-opening in Beirut (Thank you Alshaya!) at the Beirut City Centre.

I attended the opening on Saturday afternoon and upon arrival, I was greeted by a friendly hostess who briefly showed me around and told me what to expect from the event. First up, the super fun fake eyelash counter where many ladies- including U Magazine’s senior editor Dalia Saad were putting on faux lashes. The makeup artist invited me to sit on a high stool facing a mirror, and within seconds I had myself a pair of sexy long long lashes! Next, a photographer took a picture of me standing in front of a backdrop of colored balloons and I got the hard copy of the image a few minutes later.

As for the fashion, well it’s full-on Summer at Miss Selfridge! Whites, salmons, and light blues dominate the collection with flirty little dresses and glamorous evening gowns displayed all over the store. While sipping a refreshing glass of fresh lemonade that was being passed around, I noticed a petite’s section (I’m sure many petite sized ladies will love this) that has a variety of fashionable and trendy Spring outfits.

As for my first purchase, well I think I found my favorite Summer accessory with an amazing necklace from the “Diva” collection with a heavily pearled collar and long gold chains worn over the shoulders. While checking out, I was happily surprised to get a makeup bag as a gift for my purchase.

Check out all the Spring/Summer Fashion at Miss Selfridge at the Beirut City Centre- it will sure be one of my new go-to places this season!

Trends | Maria Pino Unveils Colorful SS 2013 Collection!

Since I’m not a fan of winter footwear, I’m so happy that some of my favorite brands are finally unveiling their Spring/Summer collections!

The past few years have been dominated by heavy platform shoes that aimed to elongate the legs and provide more comfort given the additional platform. This year paves the way for the more ladylike pointed toe pump that is both fresh and appealing. From Manolo Blahnik to Prada to the very talented Nicolas Kirkwood, this trend has taken the Spring runways by storm.

Taking note of this re-emerging trend is non other than Lebanese favorite, Maria Pino. The brand has just released a very colorful collection of pointed toe pumps that are polished and very ladylike. Blue, pink, and red dominate as patent gold and silver’s presence is also noteworthy.

Grey n Silva

Captoes also get their fair share of the collection; the fashionable trend (see below) is presented in hot pink, turquoise (my favorite), and beige. T-straps also make an appearance in patent gold that look fabulous with a shimmery Summer tan, while the silver pumps are classy and work great with a pair of cigarette pants or a penciled skirt. If you’d like to give your toes a little breather during the hot days ahead, then go for the understated, yet colorful peep-toe pumps that come in a variety of colors.

I’m beyond excited to try this trend that last took the world by storm when Sex and the City was still on air and Sarah Jessica Parker literally ran through New York City in pointed pumps. So step into Spring in an item from the Maria Pino collection, because with this trend, you’ll get all the femme fatale appeal you’re looking for this season!

Maria Pino is located in Kaslik, Verdun, ABC Achrafieh & Dbayeh, Le Mall Saida & Dbayeh, Beirut Souks, BHV City Mall, and Tripoli.

Maria Pino is also nominated in the first Beirut Social Media Awards for Best Fashion Brand on social media. To vote for the brand, simply visit www.smabeirut.com/vote.

Spotted | Stylish Celebrity Moms!

Happy Mothers’ Day everyone!

On this occasion, I wanted to share with you my favorite stylish celebrity moms. These women are not just stunning Hollywood women; they are also there for their kids every step of the way! Check them out!

Jessica Alba is mom to Honor and Haven with husband Cash Warren. Jessica is always seen out with her kids whether at the park or getting ice cream or walking them to school. She does all her mommy duties  in the most stylish outfits and is known to be a huge fan of prints and mixing bold colors together.

Jess a

Sofia Vergara is one of my favorite celebrities; she’s funny, outspoken, and looks good in anything! Sofia gave birth to her son Manolo when she was only 20 years old, so it should come as no surprise that this duo is extremely close (she’s 40) to the extent that they shot a “Got Milk” ad together!

My favorite Victoria’s Secret angel Miranda Kerr is one doting supermodel mommy! She’s constantly photographed all over New York City carrying her son Flynn. Miranda and Orlando’s good looks have clearly been passed on to Flynn who is absolutely adorable!

From pop star to footballer’s wife to fashion designer, Victoria Beckham has accomplished so much since emerging as Posh Spice in the 90s. This stylish celebrity is also an amazing mother to Brooklyn, Romeo, Cruz, and Harper, taking her kids everywhere she goes including dad David’s football matches in Paris. She even makes carrying little Harper around airports look effortlessly stylish!

Jennifer Lopez is known to wear big designer names-from Pucci to Zuhair Murad to Versace. And her kids are no different! Max and Emme starred with their mommy in a Gucci kids ad campaign that was seen all over the world a few years ago! Those two have a promising modeling career coming their way!

Spotted | Nicki Minaj is Almost Unrecognizable on Elle Cover!

Nicki Minaj- is that you?!

The rapper known for sporting big hair and even wigs sometimes, who likes to constantly wear stage makeup, bright fushia lips and “big crazy lashes”, is anything but that on the cover of Elle’s April issue.

The magazine’s beauty team is said to have taken a “less is more” approach for the shoot with the star opting to let the big hair and wild makeup go replacing them with natural locks and simple illuminating makeup. Instead of a crazy costume, Minaj wore a basic black pants and a sexy unzipped leather jacket with gold buckles on the sleeves. Of the shoot, the Pink Friday songstress said: “I felt naked. It was scary! So this photo shoot was a real accomplishment in my eyes.”

Minaj also opened up to the magazine about making it as a female artist in the mostly male dominated rap world and presented women with powerful words, saying: “my advice to women in general: Even if you’re doing a nine-to-five job, treat yourself like a boss. Not arrogant, but be sure of what you want—and don’t allow people to run anything for you without your knowledge.”

I can’t wait for this Elle issue to hit newsstands to see the rest of this natural shoot. I think Nicki looks great, and I for one, would love to see more of her like this!

Spotted | Boy Meets World’s Danielle Fishel Poses in Sexy Lingerie for Maxim

Remember Topanga? Well, she’s back! Corey Mathews’ on-screen wife is back with a bang (and a bangin’ body) to promote the new “Girl Meets World” spinoff sitcom that is set to hit the air in the coming few months.

Danielle “Topanga” Fishel leaves very little to the imagination as she poses in a lacy new bra and matching panties with a blue cardigan on the cover of the March issue of Maxim. She also appears in a lace scarlet bustier elsewhere in the magazine, as part of a house-wife inspired shoot.

Danielle, 31, is reprising her role as Topanga 10 years after the original show ended and is said to be “over the moon” in doing so.

What do you think of Danielle’s racy images? And are you excited your favorite 90s show is coming back?

Spotted | Victoria Beckham’s Chanel Pumps Spice up London!

If I haven’t made it clear yet, I am absolutely in love with Victoria Beckham! I love everything she wears, all her designs and fashion shows, and what an amazing wife and mother she is!

So it comes as no surprise that her outing  yesterday caught my attention, especially what she was wearing in the shoe department; Victoria hit the London streets in these fabulous Chanel two toned satin grey pumps. Forget that they belong to the Pre-Fall 2010 collection (which may be ages ago in fashion history), the elegant pearl accents make the pumps shine like they were fresh off the 2013 runways.

Mrs. Beckham also stood out in this merlot military inspired coat from her Winter 2012 collection and signature sunglasses. The only thing missing from this picture perfect image is little Harper Seven :)
