Dining in Style at Mario e Mario

Nestled in a quiet street towards the end of Mar Mikhael lies Mario e Mario. An old Lebanese house transformed into a cozy Italian eatery with a yellow wall exterior, purple shutters, and homestyle plants.

Outdoor

We walked into the restaurant shortly after 9 pm. We were greeted by one of the happiest and most helpful waiters I’ve ever seen! He led us up a narrow staircase to the restaurant’s rooftop. Understated and romantic, soft music plays in the background as guests dine on Italian delicacies and sip their cocktails in a laid back environment. The place is absolutely perfect for a lazy Sunday lunch or early drinks with friends.

Rooftop

Unfortunately, the terrace was packed so we made our way back down inside and chose a small table for 2. A new waiter emerged with a cold bottle of stillwater as we admired our table setting: 2 tomatoes and one lemon placed on a plate with a tiny plant of basil nearby (I thought this added such a homey feel to the place!)

As we waited for our menus, a lady stopped at our table to say hello. Mrs. Cynthia Sednaoui from Mario e Mario told us the story of how the place came to be: the restaurant is owned by Mario Haddad, who also owns Falamanki (that by the way makes the best Fattouch in the country). Mario presented his father (also named Mario) with this new Italian eatery on his birthday. The most interesting fact about the restaurant is that the entire menu changes everyday, based on what organic products the Napoli chef finds and the fish catch of the day. So, you are always promised a surprise!

We kicked off our dinner by ordering the Melanzane Alla Parmiggiana, which basically consists of baked eggplants with tomatoes and Mozzarella and Panzanella Classica, a mixed vegetable salad with creamy Burrata cheese. The salad was yummy and the dressing with the Burrata cheese was just amazing.

Salad

For our main course, I went for the Gnocchi di Patate Alla Sorrentina- potato gnocchi with basil, tomato sauce, and Mozarella. The tomato sauce was simply divine. Made from scratch, it added the perfect flavor to the gnocchi.

Gnocchi

Ralph went for the Totelloni Di Ricotta E Spinaci- which is basically handmade Ricotta and spinach tortelloni with butter and Parmesan sauce. At first, I thought the portion was too small, but every bite is as heavy as the one before. The dish is actually too much for my taste, but Ralph enjoyed the flavored mix of spinach and cheese.

tortelloni

Shortly after our meal, the waiter presented us with a serving of homemade Tiramisu and a slice of lemon pie (also homemade). Both desserts were delicious, but the pie won me over with its light filling and crispy crust!

Dessert2

Mario e Mario is one of those restaurants you just have to visit: It’s not an easy task for a restaurant to pull off a new menu everyday, but the place does it with such class and professionalism. The servers are knowledgeable, courteous, and friendly.

Head out to Mario e Mario for a Sunday lunch with the family, an early drink with friends on the terrace, or a date with someone you’re trying to impress- you will not be let down, I promise!

Place

Mario e Mario is located on Rue Patriarche Arida, Mar Michael. Open Tuesdays to Sundays from 12:30 pm until 3:30 pm and 7:30 pm until 11:30 pm. For reservations, call 01 444 036 .

Meal for two without wine: USD $ 110.

Special thanks to Mrs. Cynthia Sednaoui for being so hospitable and to the entire team for their generosity.

Trends | Shopping Made Chic: Chanel’s Supermarket Experience

It’s the show everyone’s been talking about! Amid everyone’s recovery process following the end of awards season 2014 , Chanel managed to awaken everybody from their slumber by putting on an eccentric (to say the least) fashion show in a supermarket setting at the Grand Palais in Paris.

Chanel ss

The genius that is Karl Lagerfeld stocked the setting with signature Coco items including pasta, eggs, cheeses, soaps, “Haute Ketchup”, “Eau de Chanel”, you name it! Shortly after, the stunning Chanel models made their way down the aisles parading the iconic brand’s latest collection (a mix of classy meets casual) as the audience looked on in awe.

Ladies who shop

Was it crazy? Yes. Was it an unconventional show for a luxury brand with a legacy such as Chanel’s? Definitely! Did the internet explode in response? Yes (and it still is more than 24 hours later) Was Coco Chanel turning in her grave throughout? Possibly! Is Karl Lagerfeld a genius who knows how to reinvent a brand, knowing that its clean cut up-scale image will not be touched? Absolutely!!

I’ll leave you with some of the most popular reactions about the show below! What did you think of the Chanel supermarket fashion show?

Red Carpet | Best Dressed at the 2014 Oscars!

To tell you the truth, this year’s Red Carpet turned out to be a disappointment to me as non of typically fearless stars took any risks for the Oscars. In any case, here are some of my favorites!

Jennifer Garner

The usually fashion shy Mrs. Affleck is finally back to her hot red carpet days thanks to this beautiful metallic Oscar De La Renta gown. Yes those ugly straps should go, but other than that Jennifer is glowing thanks to the exquisite fringe detailing, flawless waves, and enviable arm candy. Hoping she keeps it up!

20140303-152729.jpg

Jessica Biel

While it is true that the color Jessica chose does wash her out a little bit, I’m sure that no other celeb would have looked this stunning in this Chanel Couture creation. Jessica’s body is simply flawless, and all those Tiffany & Co. sparklers add so much more glamour to the entire outfit.

20140303-153029.jpg

Amy Adams

I really expected much more from the Adams, specifically since she’s wowed before on the Oscar’s red carpet. Nonetheless, her Gucci Premiere gown fits her body perfectly and those Tiffany & Co. danglers are to die for!!

20140303-153321.jpg

Chrissy Teigan

I’ve never ever praised a floral gown, so this is truly a first! I simply love Chrissy’s Monique L’huiller strapless dress; effortless, comfortable, and chic! The gown perfectly compliments the supermodel’s frame who gives the dress it’s best accessory; her million dollar smile!

20140303-153637.jpg

Naomi Watts

The Aussie actress is always a favorite of mine on the red carpet and this year was no different. Naomi glows in a Winter white Calvin Klein cap sleeved column gown and enviable Bvlgari jewels. She completes her look with an unconventional hairstyle (which I love!) and red lips.

20140303-153940.jpg

Kate Husdon

Leave it for Kate Hudson to steal the show even if she’s not nominated. The timeless actress stuns in this Atelier Versace caped gown. Everything about this look is perfect; from the side swept do to the bling and not forgetting that cut down to there, Husdon is a walking red carpet beauty!

20140303-154254.jpg

Lupita Nyong’o

If we learned anything from this year’s awards season it’s that Lupita Nyong’o can wear any color and any gown and steal the show! The native Kenyan takes everyone’s breath away in this custom ivory blue princess gown with deep cuts down the front and back sides. She completes her look with diamond and gold Fred Leighton jewels that make her look like the winner she turned out to be!

And that’s a wrap for awards season 2014! Who was your favorite?

Red Carpet | Best Dressed at the 2014 SAG Awards

The second stop for awards season happened to be the Screen Actors’ Guild awards. The lavish yet relaxed awards show took place on Saturday in Los Angeles and just like every red carpet, there was mix of gorgeous and hideous, but more on the hideous later ;)

Here are my favorite gowns from the evening!

Jennifer Lawrence

Ok so this look is not my favorite for J Law, but it is a huge improvement from last week’s Dior disaster. Also, because of all the sequins, this dress does not photograph well, but you would like it if you saw it live on TV. In any case, this Dior black strapless gown wins Jennifer some much needed points in the awards season fashion department. She finishes off the look with Jennifer Mayer dangling earrings. Now if only her hair would grow back!

Jen Lawrence

Anna Gunn

I love everything about this look! The midnight blue Monique Lhuillier gown goes perfectly with Anna’s blond hair and the shimmer is just right. The Breaking Bad actress also pays homage to the show with a custom made “Breaking Bad” clutch that made fans of the series go wild!

Anna Gunn

Lupita Nyong’o

The Kenyan beauty nails it again and looks gorgeous on the red carpet. Following her “fashion moment” at the Globes last week, the 12 Years a Slave actress turns heads in this Gucci turquoise dress. The color is just perfect for her complexion and I’m just obsessed with the neckline!

Lupita

Emilia Clarke

Just when you think Calvin Klein lost his A game in designing red carpet gowns (I’m looking at you Reese Witherspoon), the designer dresses Emilia Clarke in a custom sequin one shoulder gown that is drop dead gorgeous! From the color to the hair to the flawless and understated makeup, I I love everything about Emilia’s look!

Emilia Clarke

Sofia Vergara

No surprise here! The bombshell does it again in a strapless Donna Karan gown and a breath-taking Amrapali diamond and emerald statement necklace. Enough said.

Sofia Vergara

Amy Adams

Undoubtedly my favorite from this year’s SAGs, Amy Adams is stunning in this Antonio Berardi dress featuring one shoulder cutout detailing. I love the bejeweled waistline and the rest of her Cartier arm candy. Simply beautiful!

Fashion Fails | Worst Dressed at the 2014 Golden Globe Awards

After the good comes the ugly. Drum rolls please for the worst dressed starlets at the 2014 Golden Globe Awards in no particular order (because every single one of these looks was a fashion crime in its own way)

Reese Witherspoon
I like Reese Witherspoon. She’s pretty funny and down to earth. Her fashion sense? Not so much. This teal Calvin Klein dress is a one piece swimsuit disaster waiting to happen. The color, the fit, just everything about this is wrong and makes the actress look bulky on top. The weird hairstyle doesn’t help either.

Reese Witherspoon

Drew Barrymore

While it is a fact that Drew is carrying life inside of her, it looks like life is actually growing on her. Everything is wrong about this Monique Lhuiller dress; from the hemline to the excessive use of these ridiculous petals, this whole look is just a huge catastrophe. I know it’s mean to make fun of a pregnant woman but if Olivia Wilde can look this stunning while pregnant, so can Drew.

Drew Barrymoore

Heidi Klum
There was a time when I really loved Heidi Klum. Then she hit 40 and decided that she needed to put her cleavage on full display anytime she went out and there was a chance someone could get a picture of her. The Golden Globes is just an example of this. Ugly dress. Hideous necklace. The ex supermodel can do so much better than this Gucci getup.

1731663_ET_Golden_Globes_WJS_17

Sandra Bullock
Is it mean to think that Sandra looked better in a space suit than she did in this dress? In all honesty this whole Prabal Gurung look isn’t working. Bubble gum pink just doesn’t fit well with a fancy awards show and neither does an unironed dress!

Sandra Bullock

Zoe Saldana

It’s such a shame that such a stunning actress like Zoe just committed red carpet suicide. This Prabal Gurung dress is all kinds of wrong and does nothing to flatter the actress in any way!

Zoe Saldana

Jennifer Lawrence

I hate to bash JLaw because she really is one of the most amazing women in Hollywood, but this white Dior duvet meets The Little Mermaid is a total miss for America’s Sweetheart. The excessive accessories and the gothic makeup make the whole look more of a disaster. However, JLaw photo bombing Taylor Swift was everything on the red carpet! Hoping she’ll bring better fashion this weekend at the SAGs.

JLAWw
Tina Fey
It’s times like these when I feel like Tina likes to be a worst dressed list. The actress and co-host of the Golden Globes chose this floral Carolina Herrera gown that’s all kinds of wrong. The pattern is just too much and it looks like her body is drowning somewhere in that skirt! Good thing Tina had a few outfit changes during the telecast and got the chance to redeem herself!

Tina Fey

So that’s it from the Golden Globe awards! I’d love to hear who was your very best and worst. Hit me with your comments and don’t forget to tune in next week for the SAG awards!

Red Carpet | Best Dressed at the 2014 Golden Globe Awards

I’m so excited that awards season is finally back! The next 2 months will be fully packed with amazing (and hideous) fashion! This year I was happy to see that the fabulous looks really outweighed the bad ones; here are my favorite!

Lupita Nyong’o

I’ve really never seen this woman before, but when she stepped on the red carpet, she literally took everyone’s breath away! The 12 Years a Slave actress chose this stunning bright red caped Ralph Lauren off the shoulder design. I just love the contrast of the color against her skin! I also loved how she kept the accessories at a minimum, adding only a ring and a pair of earrings from Fred Leighton.

Lupita use this

Kate Beckinsale

You might hate this look when you first see it, but give it a second glance and you’ll love it! The British actress wore this mermaid Zuhair Murad gown with silver beading all over. I love how it hugs her curves and puts her body on display in a tasteful way. Kate completed her look with flawless Chopard earrings.

Kate Beckinsale

Cate Blanchett

It seems that the usually classic Cate has been keeping an eye on the latest trends for this winter. Case in point? This stunning lace creation by Armani Privée that makes her look on trend and regal at the same time!

Cate Blanchett

Margot Robbie

We’ve all seen enough of Margot Robbie in The Wolf of Wall Street so the actress really doesn’t have to cover up much anymore, right? Yes she’s showing a lot of cleavage and YES her thigh slit is almost up to there, but the Australian beauty is simply gorgeous in her custom Gucci gown on the red carpet. And get this: the dress is embroidered with actual emeralds! The Van Cleef & Arpels diamonds don’t hurt either :)

Margot Robbie

Sofia Vergara

In my opinion, any best dressed list is incomplete without the Colombian bombshell! Sofia wore this extravagant Zac Posen gown that featured a sweetheart neckline and a full skirt. Her Laurraine Shwartz statement necklace is total perfection!

Sophia Vergara

Naomi Watts

Naomi Watts can seriously do no wrong on the red carpet! Following her winning streak of designer dresses last year, the actress stuns again in this beaded gown with sheer cutouts by Tom Ford. For a complete perspective on the flawless look, zoom in on her breath-taking Bvlgari vintage serpent bracelet and gold python clutch.

Naomi watts

Olivia Wilde

Just WOW! I’m sure that’s what everyone thought when a pregnant Olivia Wilde walked down the red carpet! Olivia managed to get on every best dressed list by being completely covered up! The stunner wore an amazing emerald Gucci sequined dress that accentuated her baby bump flawlessly. She completed her look with Forevermark diamonds and the best ombre hair I’ve ever seen!

Olivia Wilde

With the good comes the bad. So make sure you stay tuned for the Worst Dressed list coming up!

A Fashionista’s Survival Guide to New Year’s Eve 2013

It’s almost time to bid 2013 farewell and say hello to 2014! But before we do that tonight, us girls, well we’re usually faced with trouble trying to select the perfect outfit to ring in the new year. Should we go for jeans, a skirt, or a dress? Should you go for an up-do or leave your hair down? Flats or heels? So in order to help you overcome (or at least deal with) these issues, here is a mini survival guide for every lady looking to nail her New Year’s Eve look.

The Outfit: I know we all want to wear our favorite silk dress tonight. But lets face it: New Year’s Eve = CHAOS; someone’s bound to open a bottle of champagne at 12AM and spray everyone in sight with it and it’s very possible that a waiter will accidentally drop the remaining contents of a bowl of onion soup in your lap (yes, it’s happened to me – NOT FUN!) So when choosing your outfit tonight, make it a fashionable, yet practical choice. Pick something that you know can be washed or sent to the dry cleaners. I love this simple yet glamorous find from Vero Moda.

VERO

The Shoes: If you’re going out tonight, chances are you will be on the dance floor till the early hours of the morning. And since you’ll be dancing, then you need to make sure that you’re wearing comfortable heels. (Yes, comfortable and sexy heels REALLY DO exist). However, regardless of your choice of heels, your feet are bound to feel the heat after midnight, so remember to keep a pair of dressy ballerinas in your car and turn to them to keep the party going! You don’t want to end up looking like this guy ;)

resized_y-u-no-meme-generator-elevator-y-u-no-work-my-feet-hurt-094612

The Hair: I know that nailing the perfect ‘do is next to impossible with the weather being all crazy and humid, so make sure to tell your stylist to give you something simple and a style that you can adjust throughout the night in case your hair decides to go out of control. Personally, I either straighten my hair and include some curly waves at its ends to add some volume and leave it hanging loose or I ask my hairdresser to put it up in a pony tail- that way I really don’t have to worry about it. Take Rosy Huntington Whitely’s hair as guidance and remember whatever style you end up with, ask for some extra anti hair frizz spray to keep your strands in place!

rosy

The Makeup: For the holidays, I like to go for a kitten eye and red lips. While some might consider it a bold look, it’s pretty simple and doesn’t take much time to put together. However you decide to do your makeup, keep a few essentials in your purse for touch-ups, especially in case you’re hitting several house parties or events. I always keep concealer, eye liner, lipstick, cotton swabs (these always come in handy), and a compact mirror in my purse.

dita-makeup

Have fun: No matter what you’re doing tonight, celebrate and enjoy every second of your time; it’s a been a year filled with ups and downs for us all, so when the clock strikes 12AM, make sure you hug and kiss anyone who means everything to you and toast for a happy and healthy 2014!

Spotted! | Level is Every Girl’s Shoe Fantasy Come True!

On trip to Dubai last month, I had some time to finally visit the much talked about Level Shoe District, a department store introduced by the infamous Chalhoub Group in the Dubai Mall that is fully dedicated to shoes.

With multiple entry points, you really can’t miss this boutique that houses footwear from international designers including Chanel, Louboutin, Dior, Kate Spade, Miu Miu, Paul Smith, and the list goes on!

The displays are also impressive; an attractive light show in the Lacoste section, Louboutins displayed in a gold cage, and a shoe “fitting room”- yes, you can take all the pairs of shoes you wish to try on to a private room, complete with magazines and comfy sofas and spend hours picking the perfect pair (or two ;))

And if you get overwhelmed by all the shoe mania, you can always take a break in the Boutique’s trendy Vogue Café before you resume your shopping.
