Fashion | Fashion’s Favorite Designers Show at NYC’s Bridal Week!

It was a big week for the world’s most loved bridal fashion designers as they showed their 2013/2014 collections in New York City last week. Big names including Marchesa, Vera Wang, and Oscar De La Renta dominated the event and kept the fashion community on its feet for two straight days.

First up is Marchesa who showed its feminine designs and flowing trains, as princess cuts dominated. Delicate lace, classic sweetheart necklines, and asymmetrical cuts reflected the label’s signature style.

On the other hand, theMonique Lhuillier presentation consisted of chic and sleek lines that reflect a modern and urban woman. The designer also focused on the details, textures, and extravagant designs.

Over at Vera Wang, the celebrity loved wedding designer combined monochrome with artistic and edgy princess cuts. The designer played with different bespoke fabrics including black leather.

Carolina Herrera kept it understated and classy, and some of her designs were even inspired by the 60s and most of her brides carried a bouquet of golden flowers.

Oscar De La Renta stuck to his signature silhouettes with puffy skirts and structured lace largely visible in the collection.

Legendary wedding designer Reem Acra displayed whimsical designs; as the models strutted down the runway, their veils and headbands were embroidered with the words “Only You”.

Temperly of London- a favorite of the Duchess of Cambridge- presented original British designs that were inspired by the Victorian period.

Spotted | Anna Wintour & Marc Jacobs Wear Matching Prada Coats

Two of fashion’s most celebrated icons in America were spotted at The Great Gatsby New York Premiere wearing matching Prada fur coats.

That’s right! Both Anna Wintour- Vogue’s editor in chief and infamous fashion designer Marc Jacobs wore this Prada coat from the brand’s Spring/Summer 2013 collection for the exclusive soireé. The coat- made of fur- has white daisies plastered all over it, which helps in adding a Summery vibe to it.

While Wintour chose to wear hers over an evening gown, Jacobs threw it over jeans and sneakers- guess the designer isn’t afraid of taking fashion risks!

The only question remains, Who Wore It Better?!

Spotted | Gwyneth Paltrow Sizzles at Iron Man 3 Premiere!

People Magazine’s most beautiful woman Gwyneth Paltrow hit the red carpet for Iron Man 3 premiere in Los Angeles last night. The actress stunned in an Antonio Berardi gown that combined black, dark teal, and white.

The daring dress had sheer panels in the front and on the sides that placed Paltrow’s toned assets on full display (and had me thinking that there’s no way she’s wearing any underwear). Of the look, the goddess said she felt that while it’s “very see-through, it had a superhero thing happening” and I couldn’t agree more!

Earlier in the day, Paltrow was crowned People magazine’s most beautiful woman for 2013. She said that taking care of her skin, following a gluten-free diet, and working out 5 days a week help keep her feeling beautiful and happy.

Do you love this look? Would you go for something like this for Summer? Weigh in in the comments section :)

Red Carpet | The Tiffany & Co. Blue Book Ball!

One of my all time favorite brands- Tiffany & Co. – celebrated its annual publication of its Blue Book in New York City late last week.

The Tiffany Blue Book (as the publication is called) is the brand’s annual catalogue that shows the jeweler’s latest dazzling pieces in all their glamour and brilliance. What’s even more interesting is the fact that this Blue Book has been published yearly since 1845 and has been known as the first mail order catalogue to be distributed in the United States of America.

The very exclusive event took place at New York’s Rockefeller’s Center where a giant Tiffany Blue Box was erected and a blue light show lit the skies of the big city. Hollywood’s A list stars came out to celebrate the big night wearing stunning designer gowns and more importantly, they were decked out in thousands of carats from Tiffany’s 2013 diamond collection. Take a look!

Dining in Style | Birthday Lunch at Fiona’s!

To celebrate my birthday on the weekend, my family took me out to lunch to a very charming Italian Restaurant in Saifi Village, called Fiona’s.

I discovered Fiona’s around 4 years ago, when my family took my mom to dinner there to celebrate her birthday. Then a few years ago, I took my boyfriend there to celebrate our first anniversary by taking a  cooking class with the restaurant’s very talented chef! (If you’re into this kind of stuff, this activity is one that will create memories to last a lifetime- check out the pics below to get a glimpse of all the fun!)

Something you must know about Fiona’s before visiting on the weekend is that the restaurant is usually buzzing with people on Sunday and you are very likely to bump into one (2, or even a few) of Lebanon’s high profile politicians acting very normal as they dine with their families. So while the waiters attend to their pressing needs, expect delays in getting your order on time. (Sorry!)

As we waited for our appetizers to be served, we each enjoyed a glass of Toscano, which turned out to be a very fine white wine imported from Italy. As a start, Fiona’s serves homemade bread crackers sprinkled with fresh thyme that are best enjoyed with an oil, balsamic vinegar, and Parmesan mix.  Moments later, our Bruschette Pomodoro arrived along with a deliciously looking salad made of a variety of fresh greens.

For the main course, I ordered Spaghetti Pomodoro (you can never go wrong with this dish in an Italian restaurant), while my mum ordered the filet that was served with wedge potatoes and steamed fresh veggies. My dad and my boyfriend went for the rosemary and garlic marinated grilled chicken that was also served with wedge cut potatoes.

As for the desert, well I can honestly tell you that if you’re a Tiramisu fan, then you absolutely MUST taste it at Fiona’s! We were so looking forward to eating it that I forgot to take a picture of it once it was served!

If you’re looking for a nice place to lunch with your family on a Sunday, then head over to Fiona’s. While the food may not be stellar, the value for money is a pretty good one. The servers are young and friendly and the atmosphere is very Italian and familial.

You can also visit Fiona’s in the morning for a delicious breakfast spread. Their outdoor seating area in the Saifi neighborhood is a must-see once the weather gets warmer!

Favorites | April Showers & Colorful Trench Coats!

How weird is this weather? I thought it was finally Spring!

I am probably the world’s number one Winter and rain hater. While some fashionistas are happy feeling warm and toasty in their rain boots and puffy jackets, I’d much rather be in colorful sandals and breezy tops. But what’s a girl to do? :)

I took it upon myself to try and make the best out of these April Showers (hoping that this apparent storm is the last Beirut will see for the next 4-6 months) by investing in a colorful Spring trench coat, courtesy of Mr. Michael Kors!

What I love about it: Its bright fushia color is sufficient to keep me feeling refreshed all day long. Its soft fabric provides enough warmth for this time of year and the gold toned buttons give it a cool edge and creates a nice mix with the hot pink.

You can wear colorful trench coats over almost any colors; a hot pink trench goes great with basics such as black, grey, and some shades of purple. I wore mine today with a Michael Kors purple Hamilton Satchel and accessorized with my favorite matching hot pink Victoria’s Secret umbrella to brave this crazy rain!

What about you? What are your must-have April weather-friendly wardrobe necessities? :)

LB’s Fashion’s Night Out | Miss Selfridge Opens at the Beirut City Centre!

Over 8 years ago, one of my favorite shopping destinations – Miss Selfridge- closed its doors in Beirut. As young teenagers, my friends and I would wait for Saturday afternoons to shop the latest looks to wear on our highly anticipated “no school uniform” days. As for my mum, well only God knows how many hours she had to wait in the changing rooms for me to choose the items I wanted to purchase.

So I guess you can imagine how super excited I was when I found out that Miss Selfridge was re-opening in Beirut (Thank you Alshaya!) at the Beirut City Centre.

I attended the opening on Saturday afternoon and upon arrival, I was greeted by a friendly hostess who briefly showed me around and told me what to expect from the event. First up, the super fun fake eyelash counter where many ladies- including U Magazine’s senior editor Dalia Saad were putting on faux lashes. The makeup artist invited me to sit on a high stool facing a mirror, and within seconds I had myself a pair of sexy long long lashes! Next, a photographer took a picture of me standing in front of a backdrop of colored balloons and I got the hard copy of the image a few minutes later.

As for the fashion, well it’s full-on Summer at Miss Selfridge! Whites, salmons, and light blues dominate the collection with flirty little dresses and glamorous evening gowns displayed all over the store. While sipping a refreshing glass of fresh lemonade that was being passed around, I noticed a petite’s section (I’m sure many petite sized ladies will love this) that has a variety of fashionable and trendy Spring outfits.

As for my first purchase, well I think I found my favorite Summer accessory with an amazing necklace from the “Diva” collection with a heavily pearled collar and long gold chains worn over the shoulders. While checking out, I was happily surprised to get a makeup bag as a gift for my purchase.

Check out all the Spring/Summer Fashion at Miss Selfridge at the Beirut City Centre- it will sure be one of my new go-to places this season!

Favorites | Crazy for Warm Vanilla Sugar!

Hi. My name is Lara and I’m obsessed with Vanilla. There. That’s my biggest secret!

It all started around 10 years ago when my aunt took me to a Bath & Body Works store in a Los Angeles area mall. I had finally discovered lotion heaven; from the bright color displays, to the rich mixture of sweet and sour scents, and not to mention the crazy offers and promotions!

It didn’t take me long to pick a favorite; Warm Vanilla Sugar; just saying the name makes me feel warm and fuzzy in Winter and soft and light in Summer. As for the smell, just imagine a rich melange of swirly vanilla mixed with a small pinch of sparkling sugar. Absolute heaven!

Warm Vanilla Sugar necessities!

This brand line from BBW’s signature collection includes lotion, cream, hand sanitizer, hand soap, fragrance mist, body butter, perfume, body scrub, body wash, and even candles. Every once in a while, the brand changes the packaging to mix things up a little bit, however, signature smell never changes. To top it off, these items really work; the lotion leaves your skin feeling silky smooth, the scrub exfoliates amazingly well, and the fragrance mist actually lasts all day long!

The sanitizer, fragrance mist, and lotion are a daily must have I never leave home without- these even come in a small travel size that are perfect for small purses.

I’m so happy to learn that Bath and Body Works is finally opening in Lebanon at the  Beirut City Center; I just hope that it’s sooner rather than later so that I can get my hands on these items anytime without having to fly thousands of miles to own these pampering products.

Favorites | My paRs Charm by Roula Nahas

I would like to send out a big thanks to Roula who was so kind enough to send me a “Happy” paRs charm yesterday. I’m wearing it today, loving it, and getting so many flattering comments about it!

I will be sure to carry paRs’ mission of empowerment, moving forward, accomplishing more, and above all things, always trying to “Make it Happen”!

Let’s Talk Memorable Celebrity Wedding Gowns on LBC SAT’s “B Beirut”!

It was my pleasure to be a guest on “B Beirut” yesterday night, a lifestyle show that is broadcast live on LBC SAT daily at 7:30PM.

The topic I covered with the show’s very fashionable host Bilal Al Arabi was memorable celebrity wedding dresses. As you all know, wedding season is just around the corner and you beautiful ladies may want to get some inspiration from the gowns your favorite stars wore for their walk down the aisle. Check out the gowns that were showcased on “B Beirut” below!

Kicking it off with Anne Hathaway who wore a stunning custom made Valentino couture gown for her nuptials to Adam Shulman in Big Sur, CA late last year. The Les Miserables star’s gown was inspired by the 20s and even featured a head band that covered her short tresses (thank God!). Additionally, the gown was hand painted on the bottom in pink which added a girly touch to the otherwise very feminine look.

The Black Eyed Peas’ frontwoman Fergie wore custom made Dolce & Gabbana for her wedding to Josh Duhamel. The dress featured a fitted corset, tulle train, and a collection of tulle flowers that were knitted on the back with Swarovsky crystals placed in the center. Take a look at that amazing diamond necklace in her hair!

Gwen Stefani knows a thing or two about being rocker chic! For her wedding to Gavin Rossdale more than 10 years ago, Stefani wore a Couture Dior gown that was white, but featured a hot pink hue towards the hem. Gwen knew how to inject some punk rock into her gown while keeping it classy and is widely credited today as the celebrity who inspired pink wedding gowns!

Hillary Duff, known to many as Lizzy McGuirre wore a custom made Vera Wang mermaid gown for her wedding to Hockey player Mike Comrie. The petite star looked stunning in this strapless dress that featured loads of ruffles below the knee. Tip! Mermaid gowns look good on almost every body shape; this style adds some height if you need an extra few inches and covers problem areas where you might appear to be fuller.

One of my favorite celebrity gowns belongs to Jenna Dewan who married the very sexy Channing Tatum in a charming outdoor ceremony. The stunning actress wore a Couture gown by Lebanese American designer Reem Acra that featured a full skirt, beading on the bodice, and whimsical feathers all over. Love it!

How else would you expect Jessica Biel and Justin Timberlake to pose on the cover of People magazine on their wedding day? The beautiful actress slipped into a pink Giambattista Valli couture gown for her Italian wedding to the popular pop star. Biel kept her makeup to a minimum and had her hair in a simple updo , which kept the focus on the dress!

British supermodel Kate Moss married Jamie Hince in England in a village like ceremony. The groom wore a blue grey retro suit while the blond bride wore a dress by her friend John Galliano. Moss’ gown was inspired by 20s icon Zelda Fitzgerald and was lightly sequined with sheer panels here and there. The model’s bridal party (including her daughter who served as her maid of honor) were all dressed by her close friend and designer Stella McCartney.

When Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise got married, it was a match made in tabloid heaven for months to come! Holmes asked Giorgio Armani to create her gown for the big day (as well as Cruise’s tux) who designed this off-the-shoulder beaded dress with a tulle trimmed veil for their big wedding in an Italian castle!

When Kim Kardashian announced that she was marrying Basketball player Kris Humphries, everyone knew she was going to go all out for her wedding. But no one expected her to wear three custom made gowns- that reportedly cost $75,000- by Vera Wang! For the ceremony, the reality star wore a Cinderella like strapless gown which featured a full skirt. (Check out the diamonds on her forehead!). After, Kim K slipped into a mermaid tulle gown for the reception and later on changed into a champagne colored satin number to cut the cake. Notice how in each look, the reality star wears different jewels and changes her hair and makeup!

Everyone expected Mariah Carey to go all out for her wedding to Nick Cannon a few years ago. However, the diva surprised everyone by wearing a simple Nile Cymlo gown to her big day in the Bahamas. Her dress was reportedly the same color as the island’s sand! It doesn’t stop their though- following the ceremony, guests gathered around the ocean and watched as Mariah’s dress turned pink once she entered the water. Guess Carey did have a surprise up her sleeve!

For her understated wedding to Brian Austin Greene in Hawaii, Megan Fox wore a simple gown made especially for her by Armani Privé. The actress looked beautiful as she walked barefoot in the sand in her sweetheart neckline gown that featured a stunning flowing veil and a 13 foot train- yes 13!

Melania Knauss shocked the world when she appeared on the cover of Vogue magazine one month prior to her wedding in her actual wedding dress! Yes, the former model posed in her John Galliano strapless gown that had a 13-foot train and was made from 300 feet of white duchesse satin, and 1,500 pearls and crystal rhinestones. Guess it pays to marry a billionaire like Donald Trump!

The Legally Blond Reese Witherspoon wore a custom made Monique Lhuiller soft pink gown for her wedding to Jim Toth in her home in Ojai, CA. The classy actress’ gown featured a corset top made of Chantilly lace along with a separated tulle A-line skirt with a silk satin ribbon.

Which designer would you choose to design your wedding gown if your husband-to-be owned Gucci, YSL, and Balenciaga? Well Salma Hayek chose Balenciaga for her Venice wedding to PPR chairman Francois Henri Pinault. The stunning gown featured a silver beaded bodice that highlighted her cleavage (as always) and a full off-white skirt. Stunning!

Salma Hayek in Balenciaga

I LOVE Victoria Beckham, but I think that if she were to get married again, she would pick another gown than the Vera Wang she wore to her wedding to David Beckham over 10 years ago. Nevertheless, Mrs. Beckham is beautiful in this champagne colored satin strapless gown. And check out those apples in her bouquet! Maybe that’s a British thing? ;)

There you have it! A rundown of the most memorable celebrity wedding gowns! Which is your favorite?

Thank you again to the amazing production team and crew at LBC SAT’s B Beirut. Looking forward to next time!
