It’s a match made in heaven! Prior to the new Cinderella movie’s official release, giant retailer Harrods has teamed up with Disney to create 6 displays for the store’s windows display on Brompton Road in London. The displays feature 6 scenes including when Cinderella meets the Fairy God Mother as well as when her step sisters try on the glass slippers unsuccessfully in front of the prince.
The gowns were created by the movie’s Oscar winning designer Sarah Powell while the glass slippers were courtesy of Swarovski. The glass slipper is further interpreted by several international shoe designers including Salvatore Ferragamo, Nicholas Kirkwood, Charlotte Olympia, Jimmy Choo, Stuart Weitzman, among others.
Several designs will be available for purchase in Harrods shoe heaven floor.
On a recent trip to Paris, I was positively surprised to see that our very own Elie Saab is opening a boutique on the legendary George V street in the French capital!
The designer already has a boutique in Paris situated on the Avenue Franklin Roosevelt catering to Haute Couture; Ready to Wear boutiques are located in Mexico, Hong Kong, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, Qatar, UAE, as well as France and Lebanon.
While there is no word yet regarding the exact opening date, it is important to note that the Georges V street is home to The Four Seasons as well as several other 5 star hotels and brand boutiques that are perpendicular to the legendary Champs Elysees.
Last year, the Four Seasons Georges V housed an exhibition featuring Saab’s Haute Couture AW 2013/2014 show- obviously a sign showing that the five star hotel is proud to call our Lebanese designer it’s new next-door neighbor.
It was undoubtedly the wedding of the year! Hundreds if not thousands of screaming fans made their way to Venice to watch the very handsome serious bachelor George Clooney marry the equally stunning and smart Lebanese born Amal Alamuddin. The lavish festivities kicked off on Friday and lasted for 4 days!
We were all able to get front row sneak peaks of the celeb-filled affair thanks to the hundreds of photographers who were camped out for days in Venice, all waiting to catch the perfect frame of Clooney and Alamuddin. One photographer who stood out was the Associated Press’ Mr. Luca Bruno. I was really lucky enough to catch Luca for 5 minutes from his super busy and hectic schedule to provide us all with scoop from the wedding of the year from a photography perspective! Read on to discover what he had to say about the Clooney – Alamuddin wedding as well as insider details from his profession!
Carmel +Vanilla: We all know that even at 53, George Clooney is one of the most photogenic movie stars in the world. Can we say the same about his new bride, Amal Alamuddin?
Luca Bruno: As I look through her pictures, there is no doubt that Amal Alamuddin is a beautiful fine woman, elegant and extremely photogenic.
But since I work for a wire agency, I’m not inclined to judge aesthetics. However, I can say that this beautiful and smart woman certainly has the qualities to be standing next to one of the most photographed men in the world. They really look good together as a couple.
Carmel + Vanilla: Your lens observes a lot more than just events but also interaction and emotions amongst people. How would you describe the exchange of emotions between George Clooney and Amal Alamuddin on their special day in a few words?
Luca Bruno: I found both of them to be very composed and careful, but always wearing big smiles when faced with photographers and cameras. Then in an impromptu moment whilst passing under a bridge in Venice, Clooney reached over to Amal and stroked her hair. That was the only gesture that seemed truly spontaneous throughout the 4 day festivities.
Carmel + Vanilla: In your opinion, what elements help distinguish a great picture from an average one?
Luca Bruno: That’s a difficult question to answer, and often a subjective matter. An image that tells a story to me, may be insignificant to another photographer. This is why I believe that a great picture must contain heart and soul. These ingredients will allow the picture to speak alone, without the need for a caption.
Carmel + Vanilla: What would you say is the hardest part of your job?
Luca Bruno: As photographers, we walk around with a lot of gear on our back, we wait for hours to get the right light, and we’re faced with unpredictable weather. Unfortunately, sometimes surviving all these factors is not enough to get good results because when the right time comes to push that button, someone decides to open up an umbrella and all your efforts are gone to waste!
Carmel + Vanilla: In your opinion, what is the best picture you’ve ever taken or which is the one closest to your heart?
Luca Bruno: The picture that struck me the most was one I took of the holy bible on the coffin of Pope John Paul II. It was so windy that the bible’s pages were turning over and over in the open air. And to think that I’m an atheist! Images certainly have the power to move people!
A big thank you to Luca for the extensive and detailed answers! And another one to Ralph for setting up the interview!
Thursday saw the kick-off of Star Academy’s 10th season on LBC. While some had their eyes on the contestants, I’m sure my fellow fashionistas only had eyes for Hilda Khalifeh and her stunning Zuhair Murad gown.
The forever young presenter flaunted her FLAWLESS body in a figure hugging design from the internationally renowned designer’s Fall 2014 collection that was shown in Paris a few months ago.
Hilda posted a series of pictures on Instagram- starting off with a teaser of the covered gown (bearing Zuhair Murad’s name) and kept her large fan base guessing until it was time to reveal her winning look!
The seasoned host kept the rest of her look simple with barely-there accessories and a classy ponytail.
Following a 9 year courtship, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are finally married!
Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past week, you’d know that the internet world went into full-time investigation mode once they found out that the couple were married in a mega hush hush ceremony at their estate in Chateau Miraval, France.
And the most important question on everybody’s mind was: What did Angelina wear to the big day?
So, here are the first pictures of Jolie’s gown that were exclusively featured in People and Hello! Angelina’s dress was designed by Versace’s master tailor Luigi Massi- who actually sowed dozens of designs and caricatures that were drawn by her six kids onto her dress and veil. Talk about a customized gown!
The blushing bride wore her hair up in a chic and elegant chignon and complimented her perfect look with understated earrings and her brand new wedding band!
Shakira’s outfit featured sexy cutouts and fringe details. The singer demanded everyone’s attention as she moved and swayed to her hit song “La La La”, showing off the design’s flawless details in every step.
Well done to Charbel Zoe. There’s surely more to come from this exceptionally talented designer!
When Jennifer Lopez took the stage last night in Sao Paolo along side Pitbull and Claudia Leitte, the newly single starlet took everyone’s breath away! The Latina clearly did not disappoint!
Jennifer slipped into a stunning emerald leotard by Charbel Zoe. I did a little digging and found out 4 things you probably didn’t know about this up and coming Lebanese designer.
He’s been designing for longer than you think!
This Lebanese young designer is quite the sensation! He’s being doing what he’s best at since 2012; in fact he even designed Miss Lebabon’s evening gown for the 2012 Miss World competition. His designs are so intricate and detailed, clearly showing off the female figure in a flattering way.
This is not the first time JLo wears one of his designs!
Charbel previously dressed Lopez in an equally stunning electric blue leotard for her performance on American Idol’s finale. The design featured sexy cutouts and lots of fringe.
He’s got a rather sizable list of international celeb clients
Charbel has previously worked with several models including Tyra Banks. Check him out below posing with non other than Carmen Electra while meeting with her for an upcoming project, as posted on his Facebook page recently.
He considers the Lebanese starlet Haifa Wehbe as his muse
Charbel has designed countless looks for Haifa Wehbe. Whether it’s for a video clip or for a stage performance, the designer always seems to know how to accentuate Haifa’s flawless silhouette, even designing a wedding dress for her character in a new series named “Kalam 3ala Waraq”. Check out the singer giving Charbel a shout out on her Instagram a few weeks ago!
One of the world’s hottest couples is giving the world an eyeful!
Vogue España hired none other than famed photographer Mario Testino to capture the stunning Irina Shayk and her man, Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo in a majorly sexy spread for the publication’s June issue.
Entitled “Amor & Futbol” Ronaldo poses completely nude as Irina strategically covers him while looking absolutely gorgeous in a white strapless dress.
Inside, the Russian model and the football star playfully pose in several items from Ronaldo’s CR7 underwear line in a house setting.
The shoot – styled by Carlyne Cerf De Dudzeele- is already garnering so much attention from the international media as well as the social media world, turning it into a headline in all major online publications.
In recent months, Vogue featured several high profile couples on its covers, including Kanye West and Kim Kardashian in US Vogue and David and Victoria Beckham in Vogue France.
Katy Perry dazzled audiences with her rendition of “Dark Horse” during the Brit Awards a few nights ago, and most of the credit goes to non other than Lebanese designer Nicolas Jebran who dressed her in a drop dead stunning Cleopatra inspired outfit that looked like it took ages to put together!
But the real story here happened a few nights later when Perry premiered the official video for her latest single wearing an amazing gown by the same Lebanese designer all throughout. The California native is featured as Queen Katy Patra (as the internet has been calling her) sitting on a thrown and wearing a multi-colored intricate design by Jebran. The gown is a piece of art and just simply stunning!

On trip to Dubai last month, I had some time to finally visit the much talked about Level Shoe District, a department store introduced by the infamous Chalhoub Group in the Dubai Mall that is fully dedicated to shoes.
With multiple entry points, you really can’t miss this boutique that houses footwear from international designers including Chanel, Louboutin, Dior, Kate Spade, Miu Miu, Paul Smith, and the list goes on!
The displays are also impressive; an attractive light show in the Lacoste section, Louboutins displayed in a gold cage, and a shoe “fitting room”- yes, you can take all the pairs of shoes you wish to try on to a private room, complete with magazines and comfy sofas and spend hours picking the perfect pair (or two ;))
And if you get overwhelmed by all the shoe mania, you can always take a break in the Boutique’s trendy Vogue Café before you resume your shopping.
Level is also pretty active on social media and Instagram specifically. I for one get up every day and receive my daily dose of Nicholas Kirkwood’s designs which are enough to get me through any hectic morning!
